Is Branding in Marketing Going Away Completely?
For nearly as long as marketing has been in existence and perhaps even before marketing was formally recognized, branding has been a manner in which a name has been established for a particular good or service synonymously with the manufacturer or seller of that good or service. Throughout history, in both good times and bad, branding has held its place in the marketing scheme of things. Not always necessarily because of the strength of the branding itself but from the comfort people derive from consuming products or services from a trusted name. In difficult economic times, many have turned to branding first as a means to cut corners, trusting the reliability already built to carry them through the tough times.
Today, there are recession like tendencies that are unavoidable everywhere. No brand is safe and as such, these difficult times are more than just cause for true brands to turn to their consumers in an effort to create sustainability, not to ensure continued taxation of the consumer with getting them for every dime possible. Such that it bears the question as to whether branding in marketing is going away completely. Some will say that it is but in place of branding will come the hoards who offer something that closely resembles branding but wears many different hats or as it is commonly referred to: bargains.
